  • Master the Use of Monitoring in the Clinical Environment

Courses are typically held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Traditional and new oral sedation protocols are taught by field experts. Dr. Anna McGuire (DMD, Dental Chair Kettering Health Residency) and Dr. Gary Mermel (Board Certified Anesthesiologist) spend individual time with each dental assistant. Our small course sizes ensure that every attendee receives the instruction they need to become a safer and more confident team member.

Description

Before adding sedation to a clinical practice, the staff has to understand the entirety of what dental sedation entails. The sedating dentist is responsible for making sure that they do.

Having dental assistants attend this course relieves the dentists of the time intensive sedation training dental assistants require.  The team will return to the office with the knowledge required to begin safe and effective sedation dentistry.

Topics covered include
  • The pharmacological basis of sedation
  • How a patient’s anatomy and physiology impact upon his/her clinical experience
  • The implications of co-existing disease when administering sedation
  • Airway management algorithms, and the techniques and equipment required to apply them
  • How to monitor sedated patients and communicate their status to you
  • Pre screening and discharge protocols
  • The importance of maintaining adequate medical records
  • Team-building and the skills required to work effectively under the most stressful of conditions
  • The course meets all state certification requirements and national recommendations for dental assistants.
