60 CE | 20 CLINICAL CASES – a Kettering Health Residency Training Program

The ADMA, in conjunction with RMS, is proud to offer university accredited sedation certification. For Ohio Dentists, Rocky Mountain Sedation will remain the regional training provider. The Ohio State Dental Board has approved the RMS training program as a member of the ADMA. The ADMA will make every effort to assist you in obtaining your sedation permit. It is ultimately the responsibility of the licensed dentist to know their state’s sedation regulations.

We are unable to provide IV training to dentists in the following states: Maine, Missouri & New York.

Check in time: 7:15 am, concludes at 5:00 pm daily

This course is a University Based Training Program that is approved by Kettering Health Residency.  We have vast experience providing IV sedation training.  Every dentist receives training from Board Certified Anesthesiologists, Oral Surgeons, and Expert Sedation Dentists. To become certified for parenteral (IV) conscious sedation, the ADMA requires:

  • Comprehensive training in the administration and management of 20 individual parenteral (IV) sedation cases.
  • Live training in patient evaluation and selection, use of equipment, personnel requirements, monitoring, documentation, patient medical management, and emergency management.
  • A minimum of 60 hours of sedation education. This curriculum exceeds the ADA national recommendations.

Summary of course structure

FIRST 60 DIDACTIC HOURS

Dentists have the following two options to complete the first 60 hours of didactics:

OPTION 1 COURSE ATTENDANCE or OPTION 2 CORRESPONDENCE

  • OPTION 1 COURSE ATTENDANCE: Trainees are offered an opportunity to attend any 3-day lecture course preceding the clinical dates to achieve their 30 didactic hours at no additional charge. These courses include vigorous Q&A style lectures and hands-on simulations of common dental sedation emergency scenarios. The remaining 30 hours are completed through video tutorials with online testing. You can find dates for these courses HERE.
  • OPTION 2 CORRESPONDENCE: Trainees can also complete their first 60 CE electronically. Access to the ADMA’s online testing platform allows students to achieve didactic proficiency around their personal schedules. Testing is administered in four categories:  IV Pharmacology, Monitors & Physiology, Prescreening & Discharge and Medical Emergencies. These tests work in conjunction with our course manuals and video lectures created by our board-certified anesthesiologists. After each test & video tutorial, students arrange interactive, live video conferences with an ADMA anesthesiologist to review and train.
CLINICAL WEEK IN DAYTON

After 60 hours of didactic instruction is completed prior to the clinical course, students are able to obtain a maximum amount of hands-on clinical experience during their 5-day rotation at our Clinic in Dayton, OH. Our small course sizes ensure one-on-one instruction during clinical cases and allows us to individually document all of your didactics during the week. This training meets the approval of the Kettering Health Residency program. Trainees are introduced to basic dental IV cases and challenged with difficult dental IV sedation situations in a supportive and instructional environment. Between live cases, trainees become thoroughly versed in proper responses to emergency situations using our state-of-the-art simulation equipment. By combining the specialized knowledge of anesthesiologists and the practiced experience of sedation dentists, the ADMA has created an IV sedation course that produces a safe, confident, and effective IV sedation practitioner.
