The ASA and ADA recommend that dental assistants monitoring sedated patients be trained in classroom with clinical instruction in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, monitoring, and emergency procedures with an emphasis on airway management. National guidelines recommend that dental assistants monitoring sedated patients are to be certified in at least twelve (12) combined hours of classroom and clinical instruction in:
- Anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology
- Emergency procedures with an emphasis on airway management
The ADMA offers dental assistants individualized training courses that meet and exceed these recommendations. The successful completion of our course covers the requirements for any state. Our clients receive the highest quality of sedation training offered in the industry.
Before adding sedation to a clinical practice, the staff has to understand the entirety of what that entails. The dentist is responsible for making sure that assistants are trained to assist in dental sedation cases. Having your dental assistants attend this course ensures that your team will return to the office with the knowledge required to begin the safe and effective practice of sedation dentistry. Our small course sizes ensure that every attendee receives the instruction they need to become a safer and more confident team member.
Pharmacology, physiology, airway management, and patient screening are heavily emphasized in the core curriculum. Throughout the course of our training program, assistants learn how to:
- Prepare and operate any monitor
- Interpret monitor readouts
- Change & troubleshoot monitor parameters.
We show assistants the most concise system of patient evaluation for situations before, during, and after sedation procedures. By working with our instructors in simulated case scenarios, dental assistants also learn how to:
- Effectively communicate with their dentist during an emergency or code
- Document sedation while they assist with the procedure
- Perform a thorough discharge evaluation
In addition to interactive didactics and simulated case scenarios, our Q&A lecture style develops a safe, knowledgeable, and confident dental assistant. Upon completion of the course, assistants return to the office with the practical and advanced dental sedation skills they need as an indispensable member of the dental sedation team.
