Types of Sedation Permits

Louisiana requires training for moderate and pediatric moderate sedation. The ADMA offers courses that satisfy these requirements.

To administer minimal sedation to patients, the American Dental Association Guidelines indicate a minimum of 16 hours of training plus clinically-oriented experiences. The ADMA offers training that exceeds these requirements.

To obtain a Moderate Sedation Permit, for patients 13 years of age or older, Louisiana requires a minimum of 60 hours of instruction plus the administration of sedation for at least 20 individually managed patients. The ADMA offers training that meets these requirements.

To obtain a pediatric moderate sedation permit for patients 12 years of age or under, Louisiana requires 8 hours of didactic pediatric sedation training after adult training and 10 cases of pediatric sedation. The ADMA offers training that meets these requirements at select courses throughout the year. CE Requirements to Maintain your Permit

Per Louisiana Rule ยง1611, all dentists holding a moderate sedation or pediatric moderate sedation permit must complete 12 hours of continuing education every 4 years. If a dentist provides sedation to both adult and pediatric patients, the dentist must complete 24 hours of CE every 4 years. The ADMA offers custom CE options to complete up to 30 CE hours in one weekend (Fri-Sun).
