Types of Sedation Permits

Iowa requires training for moderate sedation. The ADMA offers courses that satisfy these requirements.

To administer minimal sedation, the American Dental Association Guidelines indicate a minimum of 16 hours of training plus clinically-oriented experiences. The ADMA offers training that exceeds these requirements.

To obtain a moderate sedation permit, the dentist must have successfully completed of a minimum of 60 hours of instruction and management of at least 20 patients. The ADMA offers training that meets these requirements.

CE Requirements to Maintain your Permit

Per Iowa Rule 8650—29.14(153)  dentists are required to complete 6 CE credit every 2 years. This can be completed via a 1-day ADMA CE course. Select your type of sedation below to see the available course dates.
