California Dental Sedation Information

Types of Sedation Permits

California requires training for pediatric minimal sedation, oral conscious sedation for adults, and moderate sedation. The ADMA is a board-approved educational program with California and offers courses that satisfy these requirements.

To obtain an oral conscious sedation for adults permit,  the dentist must complete a minimum of 25 hours of instruction including a clinical component. The ADMA offers training that exceeds these requirements.

To obtain a pediatric minimal sedation permit, California requires 24 hours of instruction and one clinical case. The ADMA offers training that exceeds these requirements.

To obtain a moderate sedation permit for adults, California requires a minimum of 60 hours of instruction and the completion of at least 20 cases in the administration of moderate sedation for a variety of dental procedures. The ADMA offers training that meets these requirements .

CE Requirements to Maintain your Permit

California dentists with an adult oral conscious sedation permit or pediatric minimal sedation permit require 7 hours of CE every 2 years. This can be completed via a 1-day ADMA CE course. Select your type of sedation below to see the available course dates.
